The Saskatoon Tribal Council celebrated its 25-year anniversary on Friday.

Tribal chief Ted Quewezance says his group has succeeded because of its focus on economic self-reliance.

He adds that’s an important lesson many First Nations have learned the hard way.

Quewezance says private business partnerships have served the residents of the council’s member bands well over the past several years.

Quewezance insists those types of arrangements are the way of the future for First Nations, and he’s glad the word is finally getting out.

He also says Friday’s celebration was held so people could understand how much work was needed to bring the tribal council this far.
