The Battlefords Union Hospital Foundation received a gift from the Battlefords Agency Tribal Chiefs today.
Through its Community Development Corporation, BATC presented the foundation with a cheque for $100,000 dollars.
The money is going toward a $440,000 project to convert an operating room into a more efficient operating theatre.
Right now, nurses and doctors have to step over all kinds of cords and hoses connected to operating equipment, and that presents a danger to patients and operating room staff.
In the new operating room, all that equipment will be in towers up off the floor. That way, hoses and cords won’t be a problem.
BATC CDC board member Elliot Kahpeaysewat presented the cheque.
He says the BATC CDC is always looking for ways to help the community.
“We always donate to charities that are going to benefit our people as well as non-First Nations people,” Kahpeaysewat says.
Construction of the new operating room is expected to begin in a few months. Organizers are still raising money for it.
