Trial Ordered In Mistawasis Slayings

A 32-year-old Mistawasis man remains free on bail after being ordered to stand trial on two counts of second-degree murder.

Hubert Conrad Sand was originally charged with two counts of first-degree murder following the deaths of 22-year-old Greg Whitefish and 34-year-old Dwayne Badger in a shooting incident on the reserve last September.

Sand has pleaded not guilty to the charges, and has elected to be tried by judge and jury.

The decision to send the case to trial was made yesterday at Sand’s preliminary hearing in Prince Albert.

A trial date has yet to be set by Court of Queen’s Bench.
