A spokesman for Saskatchewan Northern Affairs says a decision still hasn’t been made on whether the department will fill a position dedicated to the trapping industry.

Franklin Carriere, a long-time extension officer with the government, officially retired in December 2005.

Carriere was well-known for his expertise in trapping and his knowledge of the northern traditional lifestyle.

Northern Affairs spokesman Scott Boyes says everything is on hold due to current restructuring within the department.

In the meantime, Boyes says trappers with questions can still contact the department for assistance.
