Trappers Keeping Close Eye On Manitoba Rivals

A trapper from Cumberland House says some Manitoba fur harvesters are not respecting provincial boundaries.

Clifford Carriere says trappers from western Manitoba are coming across the border between the two provinces and harvesting fur illegally.

Carriere says their Saskatchewan counterparts have voiced their complaints to the Saskatchewan government, but nothing has been done.

He notes the Manitoba trappers seem to have the support of Manitoba conservation officers.

Carriere admits it is hard to know just where the boundary actually is in the wilderness — but he’s convinced the Manitoba trappers are coming in well past it.
