Trappers Examining Insurance Options

The president of the Northern Saskatchewan Trappers Association says his group is seriously looking at implementing some type of insurance for fur harvesters in the province.

Clifford Ray notes trappers have lobbied the government about the possibility of compensation in the past, but it hasn’t got them very far.

As a result, he says they will discuss the insurance idea at the trappers’ annual meeting later this month in Prince Albert.

Ray feels trappers need some sort of safety net in their livelihood or the practice will die out.

On another note, Ray says the organization recently purchased a fur buyers licence in an effort to ensure its members get fair prices.
