A man who has been trapping in northern Saskatchewan for over 50 years is concerned the European Union’s decision today to ban Canada’s seal imports will eventually lead to a similar ban on fur products.

John Carriere, who traps near Cumberland House, believes the European parliament is convinced the fur trade also has to go.

Carriere says even though humane trapping standards came into effect in recent years, the E-U continues to receive a lot of pressure to ban fur products altogether.

He wants fur groups in Canada to be more vocal about the need to preserve the trapping industry.
