Tragedy Near Timber Bay

A 23-year-old woman is dead after being struck by a semi-trailer unit near Timber Bay early this morning.

The RCMP says the accident took place on Highway 2 just before 1:00 a.m.

The Mounties say it appears the victim was a passenger in a northbound vehicle that left the highway and became stuck in the ditch.

She apparently walked onto the road in the driving lane and was struck and killed by the southbound semi-trailer.

The driver of the big rig was not injured and won’t be charged.

The name of the deceased will be released once next of kin have been notified.
