Traditional Medicine Study In Jeopardy

A plan by the University of Saskatchewan to study Cree and Dene medicine could possibly be shelved.

Last year, the university announced it had secured agreements with both the Lac La Ronge Indian Band and the English River First Nation to visit their communities in order to learn more about traditional medicine.

However, Dr. Paul Lee of the institution’s physiology department says the project has yet to receive funding from the Canadian Institute of Health Research.

He hopes to hear word soon about whether or not resource dollars are coming.

The study would see information about traditional medicine compiled into a database and possibly put into a book for teaching purposes.
