The Conservative Party of Canada has launched its own Aboriginal caucus.
The new group is made up of four Members of Parliament and two Senators.
The list includes northern Saskatchewan MP Rob Clarke.
Manitoba MPs Rod Bruinooge and Shelley Glover, Health Minister Leona Aglukkaq and Tory Senators Patrick Brazeau and Gerry St. Germain round out the caucus.
According to a press release, the caucus will act as a strong voice for Aboriginal people and encourage grassroots citizens to take a more active role in government.
The Conservatives say, based on their information, they have the largest percentage of elected Aboriginal people in history.
A reception to formally introduce the caucus is being held this afternoon on Parliament Hill.
Calvin Helin, the author of the book “Dances with Dependency”, is giving a keynote speech.
