Tornadoes Sighted In Northern Saskatchewan

A few fishers nervously watched a tornado form on Besnard Lake Saturday afternoon.

Melanie Zacharias works at her family’s fishing camp at Besnard Lake during the summer months, and witnessed the waterspout while fishing with others.

Zacharias says it appeared to be just a normal day on the lake when they noticed funnel clouds start to form.

She says the clouds were swirling right above them, and then a tornado formed and started picking up water.

Zacharias says the whole incident lasted approximately 10 to 15 minutes.

A second report came in later that day of a tornado spotted just north of La Ronge.

Environment Canada had earlier issued severe weather warnings and watches for the entire region.

Environment Canada spokesman Dan Kulak says it doesn’t appear either tornado caused any damage.
