Tories, Metis Hoping To Put Election Behind Them

Federal Metis Interlocutor Jim Prentice has apparently agreed to attend the Metis National Council’s upcoming annual general meeting in April.

That was one of the developments to come out of a meeting between the Conservative cabinet minister and MNC president Clem Chartier earlier this week.

Chartier says the two of them talked about how Metis-specific initiatives in the Kelowna Accord will be acted upon by the new Tory government.

Chartier admits the two had to do some fence-mending over the decision by the Metis group to publicly back the Liberals in the recent election. That endorsement came after the Conservatives refused to answer a questionnaire the MNC sent to all the parties.

However, Chartier is confident those issues are behind them and the two can work together after they mutually agreed to let “bygones be bygones”.

Chartier and Prentice are scheduled to have another face-to-face meeting on March 27th.
