Tootoosis Named To Order Of Canada

A few prominent Aboriginal Canadians are among the latest inductees to the Order of Canada.

Inuit singer Susan Aglukark and Cree actor Gordon Tootoosis were among 74 people named to the Order yesterday.

Tootoosis is originally from the Poundmaker Cree Nation.

Also named to the Order of Canada yesterday was Aboriginal Peoples Television Network news director Rita Deverell, who also has ties to Saskatchewan.

The honour is bestowed to recognize outstanding achievement or contributions to society.
