A cash injection by the provincial government into disabilities programming is getting a big thumbs up from a northerner advocate for the disabled.

Gary Tinker of the Gary Tinker Federation says this month’s $77 million pledge will allow families and people with intellectual disabilities to pool more of their money.

He says he has argued for years that residents should be allowed to earn income that is separate from their government assistance so that they’re not penalized.

The new money is to be distributed according to the client wait list and on a needs basis.

The government has said much of it will be disbursed this year, with the rest coming over the next three years.
