A first nation in the western half of the province is looking to cash in on the current energy boom.

The Thunderchild First Nation, which has both oil and gas in its traditional territory, has struck a deal with Savanna Energy Services.

Under the terms of the agreement, Savanna will supply the band with 3 drilling rigs to facilitate their search for oil.

Savanna chairman Elson McDougal says the move could provide 52 jobs for local residents and millions of dollars.

A councilor with the band says it already has about 15 different partners involved with their energy reserves.
