Throassie Elected to Power in Black Lake

The members of the Black Lake First Nation have chosen Freddie Throassie to be the band’s new chief.
Throassie was elected to the post on Friday, beating out rival candidate and former chief Victor Echodh by a vote count of 419 to 190.
Up until this past weekend, the band’s affairs had been run by a third party manager at the request of the First Nation.
That situation had existed for the last several months.
It was prompted by a series of events that saw Throassie and Echodh both claiming to be chief at one point earlier this year.
Throassie has already taken his oath of office and will serve a 2-year term.
