Three people have died in a single vehicle accident near the Beardy’s Okemasis First Nation.

Police say a vehicle with four people inside rolled over Sunday, just south of the village of Duck Lake.

The vehicle ended up almost completely submerged in water, which was approximately 4.5 ft. deep.

RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Carole Raymond says the surviving passenger managed to crawl through an open window to safety — although the same open window was what caused the submerged vehicle to fill so quickly with water.

“The person who did get out, she thought the other three were following, and when she realized that they weren’t, she went back,” Raymond says.

Police say the survivor managed to get one other person out of the vehicle, but that person did not regain consciousness.

The remaining two people were found in the vehicle, and were pronounced dead on the scene.

The victims are said to be a 19-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman from Beardy’s, and a 19-year-old woman from Sturgeon Lake.

No names have been released.
