Threatened Blockade of Highway Put on Hold

There’s word a threatened blockade of Highway 924 into Dore Lake has been averted.

Area Metis local president Richard Lafleur says plans to put up a roadblock today have been postponed in the wake of a positive discussion with Weyerhaeuser.

Locals had complained the road was too narrow to be used by logging trucks and area residents.

Lafleur says plans for the blockade were put on hold after a weekend of negotiations between the forestry company and 35 residents of Dore Lake and nearby Sled Lake.

Weyerhaeuser officials have apparently asked for more time to study a proposal that would see logging trucks use alternate routes to Prince Albert and Meadow Lake. The proposal also calls for the trucks to only use the road from 6 p.m. until 6 a.m. each day.

Both sides have agreed to meet again a week from now.
