Approximately 67% of residential school survivors have received their common experience payments.

According to statistics released this week by Ottawa, 46,910 survivors have received their cheques.

Roughly 23,000 more are still being processed.

At the same time, the government says 9,715 applications have been deemed not eligible for payment — and another 4,400 require further examination.

In total, the department of Indian Residential Schools Resolution Canada has received 85,000 common experience applications from survivors across Canada.

That is about 5,000 more survivors than some authorities estimated were still alive before the process began.
