A youth charged with arson in connection with a fire that destroyed the Little Pine First Nation band office will be back in court July 14.

The 15-year-old youth appeared in North Battleford Provincial Court this morning.

Lawyers for the Crown and defence agreed to the new date this morning.

The youth will remain in remand until his next court appearance.

Court was told that several members of the youth’s family — including his grandmother — were in attendance today.

The band office and medical clinic burned down at about 4 a.m. Sunday. RCMP say it appears the fire started in a shed adjacent to the building.

Later, the youth was arrested and charged in connection with the fire.

Because the accused is a youth, he cannot be named under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
