A 16-year-old member of the Cote First Nation in southeastern Saskatchewan is facing a charge of manslaughter following a shooting incident over the weekend.

A 12-year-old boy, also a band member, was shot during a disturbance at a residence on the reserve shortly before 7:00 Sunday morning.

He later died in a hospital in Kamsack.

The accused in the case made a court appearance yesterday.

His name won’t be released because of provisions under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

The victim’s name will also likely be withheld because it might help identify the suspect.
