A 17-year-old boy has been charged with three counts of first degree murder in connection to yesterday’s triple homicide on the Montreal Lake Cree Nation.

He made a court appearance on the charges this morning in Prince Albert and will be back in court on March 15th.

A second male taken into custody yesterday has not been charged.

The Mounties have said little about the circumstances surrounding the shooting deaths of 27-year-old Greg Naytowhow, 19-year-old Kerry Naytowhow and 19-year-old Farro Bird.

The RCMP is saying that investigators are looking at three separate crime scenes.

RCMP major crimes investigators and forensic experts from Saskatoon and Prince Albert are in Montreal Lake assisting with the investigation.

Grief and trauma counsellors are also on the scene.

Montreal Lake chief Ritchie Bird says elders, youth and other band members are lending moral support to the families impacted by yesterday’s events.

Bird says his community is struggling to come to terms with the situation.

Local band members set up a roadblock outside Montreal Lake to prevent media types from entering the grieving community.
