Team Drilling Wins ABEX New Venture Award

For a northern-owned diamond drilling business, receiving a top business achievement award will make it a lot easier to recruit clients.
Geoff Gay is the CEO of Athabasca Basin Development Limited Partnership, a company jointly owned by the region’s seven First Nations and municipalities — and 50 per cent shareholder in Team Drilling, winner of this year’s ABEX “new venture” award.
Team Drilling, which provides drilling services for underground and surface mineral exploration projects in northern Saskatchewan — and beyond — has only been in business since April of 2008.
Gay says winning a highly-regarded prize for business excellence will give the new company an edge in the market.
“Any new venture obviously is scrutinized a little more by a potential customer, so just having an award through the ABEX and having a group like that do all their due diligence and recognize that it is a strong venture will give it credibility when it goes to approach clients, whether it be outside the province or, for that matter, potentially outside of the country,” he says.
The “new venture” award competition is open to any company in the province — whether Aboriginal-owned or not — that has been in business for less than three years, and Gay is proud that Team Drilling has shown its ability to compete successfully in the broad marketplace.
