Teachers’ Group Discusses Concerns With FNUniv

Senior administrators at the First Nations University of Canada have met with officials representing the Canadian Association of University Teachers.
The association has been threatening to censure the university over perceived problems regarding governance and academic freedom at the institution.
That includes the possibility of boycotts of university-sponsored events and the school being blacklisted as a potential employer.
FNUniv President Charles Pratt says that while the two parties did make some progress yesterday, there is still work to be done.
Pratt says FNUniv officials now know it is governance at the school that is the main concern, but adds they need the association to be clear about what exactly is its concern with governance.
He notes the teachers’ association has been invited to meet with the school’s board of governors in the fall.
