A 20-year-old man from the Kahkewistahaw First Nation is in custody after allegedly leading police on a wild chase over the weekend.
Shortly after midnight Saturday morning, a Broadview RCMP officer observed a vehicle coming from the Cowessess Gas Station at a high rate of speed, through the ditch and onto the road.
The officer was conducting a vehicle check when the suspect vehicle passed by at a very high rate of speed.
An RCMP cruiser eventually located the suspect vehicle on the Sakimay First Nation.
The vehicle then turned it’s headlights on and accelerated towards the police vehicle, which had to reverse into the ditch to avoid a collision.
The officer pursued the suspect vehicle, which turned around and again accelerated towards the police vehicle — forcing the officer to again take evasive action to avoid a collision.
With the assistance of officers from Indian Head, Melville and Moosomin, the suspect vehicle, the driver and two passengers were later located in Grenfell.
A fourth passenger was eventually found on the Sakimay reserve, where he had been abandoned.
The suspected driver of the vehicle is facing numerous charges, including impaired driving, dangerous driving, flight from police and driving an unregistered and uninsured vehicle.
He is scheduled to make his first court appearance on June 27th in Broadview.
