A father charged with criminal negligence in the freezing deaths of his two little girls didn’t say a word when he made his first court appearance today.

24-year-old Christopher Pauchay of the Yellow Quill First Nation arrived in court this morning wearing dark sunglasses and a black Iron Maiden hoodie with skulls on it.

He only removed the sunglasses when he approached the judge, who read the charge against him and asked him if he understood it.

Pauchay’s only response was to nod yes.

His next court appearance is scheduled for June 11.

Pauchay was charged May 1st in the deaths of three-year-old Kaydance Pauchay and her one-year-old sister Santana, who police believe got separated from their father in -50 degree Celsius temperatures this past winter after the three left his home, possibly seeking medical help for one of the girls.
