A 21-year-old Meadow Lake man accused of striking a hockey referee across the face with his stick has surrendered himself to the authorities.

Police had been looking for Nolan Crighton ever since a referee was attacked by a player during a hockey tournament at the Makwa Sahgaiehcan reserve on February 18th.

Witnesses say a player cross-checked referee Dale Neudorf in the face and continued his assault until others on the ice intervened.

The player left the arena soon after the incident.

Crighton turned himself into the Meadow Lake RCMP around 4:00 yesterday afternoon.

RCMP spokesman Sgt. Brad Kaeding says Crighton has apparently told RCMP officers he has been working in Alberta the last couple of months.

Crighton is making his first court appearance in Loon Lake today on charges of aggravated assault and assault with a weapon.
