The search continues for a Meadow Lake resident accused of assaulting a referee at a hockey game over the weekend.

RCMP are still looking for 21-year-old Nolan Crighton who faces charges of aggravated assault and assault with a weapon.

On Sunday morning, emergency crews were summoned to the arena on the Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation — the scene of the attack.

A 45-year-old referee had to be taken to hospital after allegedly being repeatedly cross-checked in the face by Crighton over a penalty call.

RCMP spokeswoman Heather Russell says it’s clear the line between rough play and criminal activity was crossed.

Russell adds the RCMP are anxious to talk with Crighton as soon as possible, and tips on his whereabouts will be taken in anonymously.

She also says the Mounties are aware Crighton has family ties in Alberta.
