The Supreme Court has dismissed an appeal from the Crown to review a sentence given to a man convicted of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old Native girl from Saskatchewan.

Dean Edmonson was convicted in 2001, and was one of three men who picked up the girl and tried to have sex with her.

He was given two years of house arrest — a judgment that outraged Aboriginal groups.

The other two men involved in the case will have new trials next year.

As usual, the high court did not give any reasons as to why it won’t hear the appeal.
