Six residents of Stony Rapids remain in Meadow Lake today (July 20), four days after being evacuated from the community due to heavy smoke.

Janet Miller of Saskatchewan Community Resources says the residents won’t be allowed back until the situation is deemed safe by officials in the community.

The administrator for Stony Rapids Sherry Green says recent rains have helped clear some of the smoke away but it can still be smelled in the area.

Just yesterday (July 19) the Black Lake First Nation saw 57 of its residents return home after having to spend a week in La Ronge.
