One of the lawyers representing the mother of Neil Stonechild says his client is doing her part to foster healing between the Saskatoon police and the local Aboriginal community.

Greg Curtis says if Stella Bignell wanted to get as much money as she could out of the Saskatoon Police Commission, she could potentially be awarded millions in a lawsuit.

But Curtis says Bignell’s decision to ask for a six-figure settlement and a written apology instead shows her desire for the mending to begin quickly.

Curtis says if Bignell went through the courts, it would likely take several years before it was finally resolved.
