The new deputy minister of Northern Affairs anticipates spending over a third of his time in the North, despite being based in Regina.

Larry Steeves assumed his new role with the provincial department on July 1st.

He replaced interim deputy minister Glenn McKenzie, who took over when former deputy minister Alan Parkinson was re-assigned several months ago.

Steeves says he’s already established a rapport with several northern municipal leaders during his time in the Municipal Affairs department.

And, even though his office is in Regina, Steeves promises he will be no stranger to the North.

Steeves says his upcoming tour of northern communities should give him a better understanding of northern issues, but he says he’s already aware of the urgent need for continued sewer and water upgrades.
