St. George’s Hill Fills Vacancies On Council

Two new councillors have been elected in St. George’s Hill.

The northern hamlet held a by-election yesterday after months of delays.

Elected to public office were Etienne Desjarlais, a trapper — and Linda Cummings, a homemaker.

The community had trouble attracting candidates for the open spots — and was forced to issue several calls for nominations until four candidates eventually let their names stand last month.

Returning officer Tom Bekkatla says it’s a relief to have the process finally over with.

He notes decision-making in the community is easier when you have a full council.
