Plans are in the works to upgrade ambulance services in Spiritwood.

John Piggot of the Prince Albert/Parkland Health Authority confirms they have requested that the Ministry of Health prioritize Spiritwood Ambulance as paramedic level service.

Piggot says this would provide residents with an advanced level of service, both in and around the community.

Piggot says the Big River First Nation and nearby town would also be served by the paramedic service should the designation go through.

He adds efforts continue to recruit a doctor to the community.
