Saskatchewan’s Industry minister says he’s pleased to hear of plans by the Alberta government to construct a nuclear reactor in the Peace River area.

Maynard Sonntag says the move should open up a fresh market for uranium suppliers in Saskatchewan.

He acknowledges there are concerns over the impact of such a facility on the environment.

But he believes enough safeguards exist to protect the wilderness.

Sonntag says even if the plant gets the green light right away, it will be 2015 — at earliest — before it begins operations.
