The son of a former band councillor in Pelican Narrows has been elected to take the place of his deceased father.

Tommy Sewap won Monday’s byelection held by the Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation for the vacant council seat.

The spot on council became vacant when Tommy Sewap’s father, Angus Sewap, died August 13th from a massive heart attack while delivering a speech in Pelican Narrows.

Tommy Sewap beat out 7 other candidate in Monday’s vote and finished 25 votes ahead of his closest competition, Mel Linklater.
