Social Welfare Administrators Get New Guide Book

Administrators on Saskatchewan reserves have a new policy manual to use when dealing with members who need social assistance.
Indian Affairs says it published the document to help able-bodied men and women pinpoint what they need to do to join the workforce.
Darrell McDonald, CEO at Fond du Lac, says there’s a lot to like about the book.
However, he worries that young parents who still live with their own mother and father might be left out in the cold when it comes to accessing social assistance.
Indian Affairs spokesman Trevor Sutter says the new guidelines won’t change who is eligible for social assistance.
He explains that all the guidelines do is give administrators the ability to sit down with people
who want to go on social assistance, and see what barriers are keeping them from holding a job.
