SNTC Co-founder Receives Order Of Canada

A well-known First Nations actor has been named to the Order of Canada.

Tantoo Cardinal, who helped launch the Saskatchewan Native Theatre Company, was one of 57 people to receive the honour.

Ten years ago, Cardinal joined forces with fellow actor Gordon Tootoosis to help make SNTC a reality.

The company’s general manager, Donna Heimbecker, says Cardinal’s and Tootoosis’ efforts were invaluable.

“It was really their vision, and we were able to bring together a company that filled a gaping void in the Saskatchewan community,” Heimbecker says.

She says Cardinal’s presence was also invaluable in helping younger actors learn the ropes.
