RCMP say two stranded snowmobilers succumbed to the elements near Stanley Mission last night.

According to police, a 48-year-old woman and a 27-year-old man left Grandmother’s Bay for Stanley Mission at around 8:00 Wednesday night.

The Mounties say it appears their snow machine experienced mechanical problems about 5 km from Stanley Mission, and they were not able to fix it.

Sgt. Brad Kaeding says the bodies of the two victims were found on a well-travelled snowmobile trail at around 10:30 this morning.

It’s believed they died of exposure, as the temperature dipped to -20 degrees Celsius last night.

Both victims were residents of Grandmother’s Bay.

Their names have not been released.

Foul play is not suspected.
