The man who called himself Charlie Smoke has finally admitted that’s not his real identity.

Charles Roger Leo Adams, Jr. made the admission yesterday in a South Dakota courtroom.

Adams also pleaded guilty to a charge of false impersonation and was sentenced to time served.

During a prolonged deportation battle with immigration authorities in Canada, the former Regina resident maintained that he didn’t have to produce citizenship papers because he was a North American Indian named Charlie Smoke.

He was eventually deported to the United States.
