The Canadian Challenge has a new date, due to safety concerns.

Originally, the sled dog races were set to run from Feb. 17-21, 2010, but Challenge president Gill Gracie says the races have been moved up a week, in the interest of not having any run-ins with snowmobiles.

“We recently found that the community of Grandmother’s Bay has a snowmobile rally scheduled for that day (when the race was to have come through), and snowmobiles and dogs don’t mix particularly well,” Gracie says.

The race is now scheduled for Feb. 10-14.

The 12-dog race will run from Prince Albert to La Ronge, north to Grandmother’s Bay and Stanley Mission, and back to La Ronge for the awards breakfast on Sunday, Feb. 14.

Eight-dog teams will run from Prince Albert to La Ronge, while Juniors and Open mushers will run from Prince Albert to Elk Ridge Resort.
