The Saskatchewan government is pumping more money into a program designed to equip Aboriginal workers with construction skills.

Yesterday, Advanced Education Minister Pat Atkinson committed $214,000 towards the Construction Careers Project at the Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technology.

The school says the money will improve the program to a point where it can train 500 people each year in Saskatoon alone.

Work site training for this program is also offered at SIIT campuses in Regina and Prince Albert.

Atkinson says 85 per cent of the students trained so far are of First Nations or Metis ancestry.
