Signs For Alternate Route To Dakota Dunes Removed

Corman Park residents have got their wish — detour signs leading out to the Dakota Dunes Casino from Saskatoon have been taken down.

Previously, signs suggested drivers take Baker Road as an alternate route while Highway 219 is under construction.

Baker Road runs through south Corman Park.

The community’s reeve says residents were worried about children because the road went near a school.

Ed Hobday says the posted speed limit is 80 km/h and there are no shoulders.

Hobday also says the traffic posed a safety risk to drivers.

He notes that Baker Road intersects Highway 11 in a similar way that Grasswood Road used to.

According to Hobday, there used to be a lot of fatal accidents at that intersection.

He says the problem is there are no turning lanes.

Residents took a petition to Corman Park council, which then asked the Department of Highways to take down the signs.
