SIGA Weighing Options After Human Rights Ruling

An official with the Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority says her group is studying the impact of a recent human rights decision.
Last week, the Saskatchewan Human Rights Commission ruled in favour of four former casino workers alleging improper dismissal from their jobs.
The ex-workers, who are all non-Aboriginal, claimed they were fired from Prince Albert’s Northern Lights Casino because they weren’t of First Nations ancestry.
The claim was disputed by SIGA officials, who said the workers were let go due to other reasons.
The ruling calls on SIGA to compensate the workers. However, it’s not known when that will take place.
SIGA spokesperson Pat Cook says the authority’s board is examining its legal options right now, and will likely announce its next course of action within the next couple of weeks.
