SIGA Scholarships Used To Help Recruitment Efforts

The Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority is hoping its scholarship program will help it find recruits for hard-to-fill positions.

This is the program’s second year.

A total of 14 scholarships worth a combined $25,000 are being offered — including a pair of $5,000 scholarships.

SIGA’s vice-president of corporate affairs, Pat Cook, says the public might not realize how many jobs at SIGA require specialized training.

Cook says students taking courses in information technology, human resources, accounting, finance, marketing and communications are of special interest to SIGA.

Roughly 60 people applied in the scholarship program’s first year — but Cook believes that number could be higher.

The scholarships are open to any First Nations resident in the province currently enrolled full-time at a recognized school.

The deadline to apply is July 31st.
