Shoal Lake Man Faces Manslaughter, Assault Charges

Charges of manslaughter and assault with a weapon have been laid against a 28-year-old man from the Shoal Lake First Nation.

Royce Virgil Bear is accused of killing a 24-year-old man and wounding another man on the reserve early Monday morning.

Police were called to the scene around 4 a.m. on Nov. 30, where they found the deceased and an injured man.

The assault victim was taken to hospital in Prince Albert for treatment, but is expected to recover.

Bear has been remanded until his first court appearance, which is set for Thursday morning in Carrot River.

The dead man’s name has not been released, at the request of his family.
