Shoal Lake Chief Critical Of Beatty Appointment

The chief of the Shoal Lake Cree Nation says Liberal Leader Stephane Dion has made a mistake by scrapping the Liberal nomination process by appointing Joan Beatty directly to run in an upcoming by-election.
Marcel Head says he doesn’t have a problem with Beatty herself.
Rather, he’s upset because he contends Dion took away the democratic right of northerners to elect representatives for themselves.
Head says the move clearly overlooks grassroots citizens, and may backfire in the end.
He adds the Liberal Party should remember that it was support by Aboriginal people that got Gary Merasty elected in the last election.
Head hopes it’s not too late for the decision to be reversed.
