An official with North American Fur Auctions says some eye-opening prices were recorded at this week’s fur sale in Ontario.

Dave Bewick says marten pelts fetched an average price of $73, representing an increase of almost 75% from last year — while western beavers recorded an average price of $26 a pelt.

Bewick says gains were also realized for western coyote pelts, as well as muskrats.

He says conditions are ripe for prices to continue this upward trend at the sale in February.

Bewick believes markets might be especially good for prime, clear-bellied Lynx.
