There’s no specific policy in place at the North West Nations Education Council on how to deal with sex offenders.

But that’s about to change, with word a high-risk sex offender may be on his way to the Battlefords.

North West Nations Director of Education Gerry Guillet says the issue is now urgent, and a policy or plan is needed.

Fifty-five-year-old Norbert Leslie Dumais is being released from an Alberta prison today. He told authorities he plans to live in North Battleford.

Dumais was jailed for 10 years for violently sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl in Saskatoon. He also has a history of committing violent acts against people he sees as threats to him. He has used knives while committing robberies.

Dumais is described as 5’6″ in height, and weighing about 222 pounds. He has long, dark hair, and wears glasses over his brown eyes.

The North West Nations Education Council represents a handful of Aboriginal schools in the Battlefords area.
