It was a clean sweep for the incumbent leaders in the five northern communities that held elections yesterday.
In Cumberland House, Mayor Andy McKay proved to be more than a one-term wonder, earning nearly three times the votes for his predecessor, Dale McAuley.
Pinehouse mayor Mike Natomagan is also back in office, after beating out his sole competitor, John Smerek, again with three times as many votes as his opponent.
Residents of La Loche gave a third term to their mayor, Georgina Jolibois, once again choosing her over former mayor J.J. Janvier.
Also running in La Loche were Ida Lemaigre and Randy Herman, who was a councillor this past term.
Mayor Jolibois said she was delighted to have such strong community support.
“I am obviously pleased with the outcome. I’m also pleased with the outcome of the list of the councillors…. Five councillors are returning to the council seats with me, so the community of La Loche has given us good support, and I’m really tremendously thankful for that,” she says.
Meantime, two northern settlements also re-elected their local advisory council chairs — Donald Laprise in Garson Lake and Terri Daniels in Wollaston Lake.
